ZIELONY, Tobias. Manitoba.

Liepzig, Germany): Spector Books, 2011.  First edition.  Softcover.  29.6cm by 21.7cm. Unpaginated.  Introductory essay by Andrea Hoitt.  A photographic documentation of the indigenous youth of Winnipeg, Canada, with a focus on adolescent gang members living on the city’s margins. Known for his intimate and socially engaged approach, Zielony captures young people lingering on street corners, in apartment stairwells, and against the backdrop of worn urban landscapes.  The book includes a black-and-white insert styled as a film script, expanding the narrative and reinforcing the intersection between documentary and fiction that runs through his work.  Illustrated throughout, including fold-out plates.  A very good copy.
