YAMAZAKI, Masayuki and Monster with Twenty Faces. The Rock & Roll Connections.
(Tokyo): Shirakawa Publishing Co., LTD., 1977. First edition. Softcover. 26cm by 18.3cm. 125 pages. Great overview of the 70’s rock ‘n’ roll scene in Japan that burst into life once the brand Cream Soda set up shop in Harajuku to sell Fifties fashion in 1975. Teenagers congregated in the neighborhood dressed like extras straight out of the film American Graffiti. The most extreme were the Rollers — men and women who dressed up in Fifties gear and danced around a boom box to “At the Hop.” Yamazaki started Cream Soda to introduce Tokyo to his version of a 1950s American retro style. At a time when Japanese fashion was mainly a replication of Paris fashions his brand offered a fresh alternative, and the first collection sold out in days. A very good copy in card cover with dust jacket.
