A parody of the title of Ruscha’s ‘Nine Swimming Pools and a Broken Bottle‘ this consisting of photographs of nine noted literary figures – mostly taken by Wilson, legendary proprietor of the Phoenix Book Shop in New York. Photos of James Purdy, Gregory Corso, Taylor Meade, John Wieners, Marianne Moore, Alice B. Toklas, Nell Blaine, Robert Duncan, and Michael McClure. Some of these writers were published by Wilson in his “Oblong Octavo” series while he was at Phoenix. Only 300 copies were printed for friends; none were for sale. This copy signed by the author on the title-page and additionally by Gregory Corso on his photo. A very good copy in stapled wrappers. A light crease to top corner of front cover.
