WATANABE, Hitomi. Tokyo University 1968-1969 – Behind the Blockade.

(Tokyo): Zen Foto Gallery, 2015.  First edition.  Softcover.  25.7cm by 18.4cm.  Unpaginated.  Text in Japanese and English.  Photographic documentation of the student protests at the University of Tokyo during 1968–1969, a pivotal period in Japan’s postwar history. The images capture daily life behind the barricades: students in discussion, moments of camaraderie, and confrontations with riot police. Notably, Watanabe’s lens also focuses on the quieter, more intimate aspects of the movement, such as graffiti and personal effects, providing a nuanced portrayal of the protestors’ experiences. A very good in wrappers with integral flaps.  Published in an edition of 500 copies.
