WARHOL, Andy. $
Original dollar symbol drawing executed and signed by Andy Warhol on brown (cash) envelope. Envelope, padded, measures approx. 4.5″ by 7″ mounted and framed to approx. 13″ by 15″. Not only did Warhol openly acknowledge that he loved money (having come from a poor family in industrial Pittsburgh), but he loved drawing and painting it as well. In the early 1960s he depicted one-dollar bills and then in 1981 he returned to the imagery and completed a whole series of drawings and paintings of the dollar sign. This a unique and pleasing example of Warhol’s fascination with the dollar sign as a symbol.
