WARHOL, Andy. Ten Portraits of Jews of the Twentieth Century.

(New York): The Jewish Museum, (1980). A portfolio of ten cards laid into a printed folder. 5 1/2″ by 7″. Issued in connection with an exibition held at The Jewish Museum October 7, 1980 – January 5, 1981. The cards reproduce the portraits of Gertrude Stein, Golda Meir, the Marx Brothers, Franz Kafka, George Gershwin, Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, Martin Buber, Louis Brandeis and Sarah Bernhard. Each image was based on an archival photograph which Warhol partially redrew and overlaid with blocks of high contrast colour thus fracturing the visual field of each picture into uneven zones of colour and traces of overdrawn silhouettes. A biographical sketch apprears on the reverse of each card. A near fine set housed in a printed card folder. Each card in this set has been signed by Andy Warhol.
