WANDREY, Uwe. Kampfreime.
(Hamburg): Quer-Verlag, no date. Second edition with additional slogans. Oblong 24mo. Unpaginated. A collection of rhymed slogans meant for use during the 1968 protests of the German Student Movement. Wandrey was involved with the group Hamburg Linksliterarisch and the APO (Extra-Parliamentary Opposition movement), opposing the Emergency Acts (Notstandgesetze) of 1968 and the Vietnam War. The volume is pasted into a cloth-backed metal binding specifically designed for revolutionary resistance. The metal edges serving to allow one to tear away posters, flyers, and the big bourgeois advertisements but perhaps more specifically enabling the book to be used as a weapon, and as such is perhaps the first book so designed. A good example of this work, a landmark in book design with faint ‘Notwehrtauglich’ (suitable for self-defence) stamp to cover label. Cover and title page with some foxing and marking.
