URQUHART, Donald. Leigh!

(Paris): That Donald, 2012.  First edition.  Softcover.  29.5cm by 21cm.  Unpaginated.  Urquhart’s scarce homage to fashion icon Leigh Bowery.  The introduction claims the Leigh Zine, to be “a souvenir; votive tribute,memento mori, spiritual whodunnit, wank mag, metaphysical shocker, fashion cornucopia and mirror”. The work was published to accompany the Bowery retrospective at the Kunsthalle Wien gallery in Vienna, Austria, it includes details of the exhibited outfits as well as text pieces, cartoons and Urquharts distinctive images.  Urquhart moved to London in 1984, and established a friendship and collaborative role with contemporary Leigh Bowery.  Urquhart embraced the heady drag performance scene of which Bowery and his circle were pioneering innovators. Urquhart set up the underground creative tour-de-force that was The Beautiful Bend, a club night which he ran throughout the ’90s with Sheila Tequila and DJ Harvey. Following Bowery’s death, Urquhart joined with the members of Bowery’s former band Minty to form a new group, The Offset.  This is a very good copy, small nick, creasing at spine.  Rare.
