This is Tomorrow.

(London): Whitechapel Gallery, 1956. First edition. Square octavo. Introductory essays by Reyner Banham and Lawrence Alloway. Seminal art catalogue of the exhibition that pre-empted the emergence of Pop Art and launched the contemporary British Art Scene. The exhibition included artists, architects, musicians and graphic designers working together in 12 teams — referred to as “groups” — an example of multi-disciplinary collaboration that was still unusual. Each group took as their starting point the human senses and the theme of habitation and produced designs to challenge perceived boundaries between the visual arts and promote dialogue between practitioners. The exhibition featured work by Richard Hamilton, Erno Goldfinger, Victor Pasmore, Paolozzi, Anthony Jackson, Germano Facetti, Theo Crosby, John Ernest, William Turnbull. This is a very good plus copy, spiral bound printed blue wrappers. Faint scratch to front cver and light corner crease to rear cover. A much nicer copy than usually encountered of this iconic catalogue.
