The Hapshash and the Coloured Coat. Score it at the Head Shop.
(London): [Badge Boutique], no date (c.1968). Very rare poster for the Badge Boutique, a ‘Head Shop’, the first in the UK, at 202 Kensington Park Road, which had previously been an S&M brothel and subsequently became the first Rough Trade punk and reggae record shop. The promo poster, measuring approx. 40cm by 31cm was given away free to customers. A very good example, printed in green on pink paper. The poster is a recently discovered work by Hapshash and the Coloured Coat an influential British graphic design and avant-garde musical partnership from late 1960s, consisting of Michael English and Nigel Waymouth. They produced popular psychedelic posters, and two albums of underground music. Only a around five examples of the poster are known to exist.
