The Benson and Hedges Book of Racing Colours.

(U.K.): The Jockeys’ Association of Great Britain, 1973. First edition. Quarto. XXII, 320 pages and index. Introduction by Sir Randle Feilden. Fantastic visual record of almost 10, 000 of racing silks (colours), which consist of a specifically styled shirt and a cap. In 1762 the Jockey Club officially requested the race horse owners to have specific colours for their riders to wear, allowing them to be identified as they travelled around the race track. Originally silk, today, more durable and practical fabrics are used (typically nylon) individually sewn using distinguishing colour combinations as requested by individual owners, partnerships or trainers. A very good copy in green printed wrappers. A wonderful work that serves as perhaps the best fashion colour combination work ever published.
