Spider Webb and Friends. Sounds to be Tattooed By.

(Woodlawn Station, NY): Tripod Records, 1984. First edition. Cassette Tape. 10.9cm by 7cm. An exceedingly rare cassette compilation featuring performances by the Electric Crutch Band, Johnny Winter, Susan Winter, The Blue Dots, Axel, Jeremy Steig, Leonard Lonergan, Bar Maid, Black Anthem, Kill Me, Bugsy, and Children in Adult Jails. The recordings were made at a variety of venues, including The Other Place (Netherlands), the Lone Star Cafe (New York), Lincoln Center (New York), and Peaches Lesbian Bar (New York). The cassette sleeve reproduces a photograph by Charles Gatewood. Produced by the pioneering American tattoo artist Spider Webb (Joseph Patrick O’Sullivan, 1944–2024), who adopted his professional name from the comic-strip character in the 1937 film serial Tim Tyler’s Luck. One of the leading figures in the campaign to legalise tattooing in New York City, Webb was famously arrested in 1976 after tattooing Annie Sprinkle on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in protest against the city’s prohibition of tattooing. Very rare, with no copies located in OCLC and no google reference.
