Hardcover,  30cm × 24 cm.  240 pages.  Cool volume, Illustrating the photo albums of Shabazz, portraits he made between the late 1970s and the 1990s in Brooklyn, Queens, Harlem, the West Village and elsewhere in New York, including images from his time working at Rikers Island. The photographs, many previously unpublished, are presented as they existed in Shabazz’s original family-photo style albums: sequential groupings of small prints that double as personal portfolios, offering an intimate, street-level chronicle of community life, fashion, youth culture, and social change in a rapidly evolving city.  The book also includes scholarly and contextual essays (by Deborah Willis, Nelson George, Leslie Wilson, Michal Raz-Russo, and others) that situate Shabazz’s work within the broader history of street photography, Black cultural expression, and the social dynamics of New York’s neighbourhoods in the 1980s and 1990s.
