RICKARD, Doug. A New American Picture.

(Cologne): White Press via Schaden.com, 2010. First edition. Oblong octavo. Unpaginated. A startling and fresh perspective on American street photography. For over three years Rickard used Google Street View to explore the cities and towns once synonymous with large scale manufacturing and wide-spread employment; Detroit, Baltimore, Houston, Memphis, Atlanta, New Orleans, Camden New Jersey, Buffalo New York. Aesthetically Rickard favoured the images captured by the low resolution cameras employed in the first iteration of Street View which he then photographed on his computer screen and edited to create the inverted American Dream. The volume illustrates 69 of these images in four-color plates beautifully printed on 50/50 soft-silk recycling paper. The correct first edition preceding Apeture trade edition. Published in an edition of 200 copies plus 20 artists copies, this is copy 13 / 20 signed by the artist and dated (2013).
