PARR, Martin. Abandoned Morris Minors of the West of Ireland.

A rare publication collecting Martin Parr’s photographs of abandoned Morris Minor cars encountered on the west coast of Ireland. Parr made the photographs in the early 1980s after moving to Ireland in 1980, becoming fascinated by the derelict cars he found abandoned in fields, by roadsides and in remote rural locations. The photographs capture the gradual absorption of the once-ubiquitous Morris Minor into the Irish landscape, with some vehicles repurposed as sheds, animal shelters and other makeshift structures. The project was first exhibited at the Galway Arts Festival in 1981, where 32 black-and-white prints were shown, and subsequently at the Albert Street Workshop in Hebden Bridge in 1982. Parr’s fascination with the cars was partly aesthetic: he was particularly drawn to examples in which vegetation had begun to reclaim the vehicles. A very good copy in stapled wrappers.
