PARDO, Alona. Another Kind of Life: Photography on the Margins.

(Munich, London and New York): Prestel, 2018.  First edition.  Hardcover.  28cm by 23cm.  303 pages.  Pulished to accompany the 2018 exhibition at London’s Barbican Art Gallery. The exhibition was part of the Barbican’s “The Art of Change” season, which examined how the arts respond to and influence social and political landscapes.  Superb volume containing work by Bruce Davidson, Mary Ellen Mark, Boris Mikhailov, Daido Moriyama, Jim Goldberg, Paz Errázuriz, and Dayanita Singh, among others.  The subjects include trans individuals, sex workers, bikers, gang members, circus performers, survivalists, and others who live on society’s fringes. Through a diverse range of photographic styles—including portraiture, street photography, and documentary—the collection offers an unflinching yet empathetic portrayal of these communities.  A very good plus copy in dust jacket.
