OTTO, A., A and E.R. SCHERZ and G. TAAPOPI. Mythos Haar: Hair-Styles, Headdresses and Ornaments in Nambia and Southern Angola.
(Windhoek, Nambia): Gamsberg Macmillan, 1981 (1992). Reprint. Small oblong quarto. 110 pages. An important and fascinating photographic documentation of hairstyles and head ornaments, in Nambia and surrounding areas, primarily from the 1940’s a time when often the styles and decoration identified the tribe and social status of the wearer. In many of the tribes documented here, the different stages in a woman’s life were characterised by a particular hairstyle in other tribes the style was a matter of personal taste. Illustrated throughout primarily with black and white photographic plates. A very good copy in dust jacket.
