OBERHAND, Robert. The Chili Bowls of Los Angeles.
(No place): Self published, 1977. First edition. Softcover. 16.2cm by 14cm. Unpaginated. Early and very scarce hommage to Ruscha, this a photographic exploration of the iconic Chili Bowl restaurants that were prominent in Los Angeles during the 1930s and 1940s. These establishments were notable for their distinctive bowl-shaped architecture and were part of the city’s unique roadside landscape. Although the Chili Bowl restaurants ceased operations by the mid-1940s, their unique structures remained scattered throughout the city and this volume features 17 photographic illustrations documenting the remaining Chili Bowl structures, highlighting their architectural uniqueness and the changes they underwent over time. A very good copy.
