NAGAHAMA, Osamu. The Island of Endless Hot Night.

(Tokyo): Haga shoten, 1972. First edition. Small quarto oblong. 139 pages. Nagahama’s fantastic photographs of Okinawa show an extremely pointed critique of the U.S. presence on the Island, a constant since the end of W.W. II. The book is, of course, shot in the familiar grunge Provoke style, but it has a flamboyant extra twist, with groups of images being presented as tinted monochrome — green and blue — rather than straight black and white. A very good copy in card covers with paper dust jacket, lacking obi. Without doubt one of the best Japanese photobooks.
