This is the stylishly designed, beautifully printed catalogue published in conjunction with the first major international touring exhibition of works by the new generation of Anime and Manga influenced Japanese contemporary artists. Surveying a tendencies in art, animation, graphic design, and fashion towards two-dimensionality, it features painting, photography, works on paper, video, fashion, computer animation, cartoons, performance, and sculpture by nineteen artists. Curated and with a text by Takashi Murakami, “Superflat” includes the work of Murakami, Chiho Aoshima, Bome, Enlightenment (Hiro Sugiyama), groovisions, Yoshinori Kanada, Henmaru Machino, Koji Morimoto, Mr., Katsushige Nakahashi, Yoshitomo Nara, Shigeyoshi Ohi, Masafumi Sanai, SLEEP, Chikashi Suzuki, Aya Takano, Kentaro Takekuma, Hitoshi Tomizawa, and 20471120. The exhibition had its U.S. premiere at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art in January 2001 following presentations in Tokyo and Nagoya.
