MORVAN, Yan. Burning Man ’98.
(Paris): Industrie Culturelle, 2021. First edition. Octavo. Unpaginated. Afterword by Jean-Marc Barbieux. Text in English. Great volume of photographs from Morvan’s week spent at the 1998 Burning Man festival. The festival’s theme was ‘Nebulous Entity’ (it rained everyday). The black and white images capture a Burning Man when it was still an underground gathering for bohemians and free spirits of all stripes, it has since evolved into a destination for social media influencers, celebrities and the Silicon Valley elite. Many see the death of Aaron John Mitchell in 2017, a festival-goer who threw himself into the flames (of the burning man effigy) as a sign that the fun is over. A near fine copy in cloth boards with inset photo-plate.
