MORVAN, Yan. Bobby Sands.
(Marseille): Éditions André Frère, 2018. First edition. Quarto. 230 pages. Introductory text in French and English by Sorj Chalandon. Bobby Sands died on May 5, 1981. On March 1, 1981, he began a hunger strike, followed by nine other political prisoners who were members of the IRA (Irish Republican Army) and the INLA (Irish National Liberation Army), to obtain the status of political prisoners to which they are entitled. Sands died in the prison hospital on the 66th day of his hunger strike, prompting rioting in nationalist areas of Northern Ireland. The tensions were caught on camera by Morvan a freelance photographer at the Sipa press agency. His black and white images fully reflect the horrors of this turbulent period in English – Irish relations. A near fine copy in photographic boards with obi. A damned good book
