MITCHELL, Margaret. Autant en Emporte Levent.

(Paris): Gallimard, 1939.  First French edition.  Octavo.  735 pages.  Set in Clayton County and Atlanta, both in Georgia, this Pulitzer Prize-winning novel is a sweeping romantic story about the American Civil War from the point of view of the Confederacy.  In particular, it is the story of Scarlett O’Hara, a headstrong Southern belle who survives the hardships of the war and afterward manages to establish a successful business by capitalizing on the struggle to rebuild the South.  The novel was adapted into an Academy Award winning movie of the same title.  This is a near fine, partially uncut, copy in card covers with paper dust jacket.  A nice copy of this uncommon first edition of one of  the most popular novels of all time.
