McKENNA, Joe. Joe’s
Joe McKenna, 1992. Large folio. The first issue of the legendary Joe’s Mag, a bold integration of art and fashion. This lavish presentation combines the eroticism of Bruce Weber’s photos, the delicacy of Paul Cadmus drawings, and the ennui of the memoirs of actor Dirk Bogarde. Illustrated throughout, the magazine re-defined style and quickly became a hard to find collector’s item. Published at the height of the supermodel era, McKenna gave his first cover to the most divine woman of all timethe Virgin Mary, who was depicted looking upward and serenely exhaling a cloud of smoke, presumably from a heavenly roll-up. A very good copy, unbound pages laid into stiff illustrated wrappers. Some creasing, rubbing to edges and rear cover, still a nice copy and becoming increasingly scarce.
