Marcel Duchamp: July 28, 1887 – October 2, 1968.
(Philadelphia, PA): The Division of Education, Philadelphia Museum of Art, 1973. First edition. Single sheet. 61cm by 38cm. A two-page memorial newspaper produced in conjunction with the major Duchamp retrospective exhibition organised by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art in New York. The handbill served as both a tribute to Duchamp’s life and as an informative piece for the exhibition attendees. It included reproductions of Duchamp’s works, critical essays, and archival materials that provided insight into his influence on modern art. Notably, it featured a reprint of J.F. Griswold’s 1913 satirical cartoon “Seeing New York with a Cubist: The Rude Descending a Staircase (Rush Hour in the Subway),” which humorously referenced Duchamp’s iconic painting Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2 . A good copy, some edge tears, small loss to one corner. Folded.
