MANDELKAU, Jamie. Buttons: The Making of a President.

(London): Open Gate Books, 1971. First edition. Octavo. 157 pages with 8 page photo-insert. The very scarce hardcover issue (also published simultaneously as a paperback by Sphere). Superb account of the rise of “Buttons” from his days as a rocker and wars with the Mods, through his visit to the United States where he received his Angel colours, to his return and subsequent adventures in Britain as president of the UK chapter of the Hells Angels. A very good plus copy in dust jacket with short closed tear to the rear panel and some edgewear. This copy inscribed to Mick Farren, Minister of Information for the UK White Panther Party, editor of the International Times and leader of The Deviants, by the author thanking him for his help with the introduction additionally inscribed by Buttons “Mick:- / Mick, ha, ha, ha / heh heh he / everybodys Reading about / me.” This hardcover edition is the holy grail of Hells Angels books, with OCLC recording just one copy of the hardcover edition in the US, at Princeton, inscribed copies are rarer than birdshit in a cuckoo clock. This is the first example we have encountered signed by both the author and Buttons. The definitive work on the English chapter of the Hells Angels.
