LESSER, Adolf Professor Dr. Stereoskopischer gerichtsärztlicher Atlas.

(Breslau, Poland): Schlesische Verlags-Anstalt v. S. Schottlaender, 1903-1905.  First edition.  Four boxes.  Each box containing 50 stereoscopic cards and a small booklet providing details of each image and the important features from the legal-medico cases from which the photographs have been obtained.  The cards measure approx. 13cm by 17.5cm and each contain two images.  A pioneering work in the field of forensic medicine, the graphic images depict numerous conditions resulting from homicidal and suicidal injuries.  The grisly and powerful photographs show skull and bone fractures, the impact of gunshot wounds, burns, injuries caused by stabbings, the effects of hanging and the like.  All items in good condition housed in red clamshell boxes with gilt lettering.  Boxes showing wear at corners and edges, and in one instance split at corners, lettering faded.  Still a presentable set of this rare and important work by the noted forensic scientist Adolphe Lesser.  OCLC locates only six complete sets worldwide.
