LEE, Rev. Frederick George. Glimpses of the Supernatural. Being Facts, Record and Traditions Relating to Dreams, Omens, Miraculous Occurrences, Apparitions, Wraiths, Warnings, Second-sight, Witchcraft, Necromancy, etc.

(London): Henry S. King and Co., 1875.  First edition.  Hardcover.  19.5cm by 13.5cm.  Two volumes.  291 and 249 pages plus 35 pages of publisher’s advertisements.  Very scarce compilation of supernatural accounts, folklore, and religious reflections on paranormal phenomena.  The author, an Anglican clergyman and theologian, explores a range of mystical and unexplained events, drawing from historical records, personal testimonies, and religious traditions.  The book reflects the 19th-century fascination with spiritualism and the supernatural. While some saw Lee’s work as a serious theological discussion, others viewed it as a collection of sensational ghost stories and folklore. Still it remains a valuable text for those interested in Victorian-era supernatural beliefs, religious perspectives on the paranormal, and historical ghost lore.  Very good copies in decorated brown cloth with gilt lettering to spine and front boards.  Some wear, rubbing at head and tail of spine, foxing to endpapers, title-pages.  Bookplate of Irwin of Rathmoyle (Lt-Col. Richard Arthur Irwin), to front pastedown of both volumes.  Scarce.
