Le Editeur Invisible. Sunday Paper.
(Vondelpark, Amsterdam): Self-published, 1977. First edition. Stapled sheets. 29.5cm by 21cm. Seven volumes. Issues 1-7, presumably all published, of this countercultural community newspaper. Undoubtedly inspired by Ed Sanders Fuck You magazine these issues similarly claim to publish ” anything (writings or drawings), absolutely no censorship”. The magazine was set up at the Amphitheatre (Open Lucht Theater) in Vondelpark. In the 1960s/1970s the Vondelpark became a symbol of a place where “everything is possible and (almost) everything is allowed” The Dutch countercultural headquarters, which had hosted Willem de Ridder’s Love-in and become home to the hippies was soon an international attraction with some airlines like KLM and PanAm advertising their flights to the Netherlands with such slogans as ‘Fly KLM, sleep in the Vondelpark’. The papers here, claim not to report the news but to make it. The idea was for those in the park to contribute to the paper, with drawings, local news, philosophies, proclamations, drug information, indeed it seems as the paper claimed anything was allowed. The contributions were mimeographed and compiled into the ‘Sunday Paper’ each Sunday. The issues here from July – August, 1977. We believe all published, no copies recorded in Worldcat, no google reference and apparently no issues at the Institute of Social History in Amsterdam. The issues here are generally in very good condition, some wear at edges, a few sheets loose from staples. An important and rare record of the countercultural scene at Vondelpark.
