KLEIN, Yves. Monochrome und Feuer.
(Krefeld, Germany): Museum Haus Lange, 1961. First edition. Octavo (21cm by 10cm). This a copy of the scarce announcement card for Yves Klein’s retrospective ‘Monochrome und Feuer’. Card bifolium title printed to front cover, central pages with monochrome IKB pigment, rear cover printed with exhibition details. Two inserted sheets, one a leaf of thin pink paper (with small nick to edge) with details of revised exhibition dates and the other thin card prints details of the opening of the exhibition and of the performance of his ‘Monotone Sinfonie – Stille’ monochrome IKB pigment on recto. The exhibition was eventually held (having been delayed because of strikes in Belgium) from January 14 – February 26, 1961 at the Mies van der Rohe – designed Haus Lange in Krefeld, Germany. The retrospective, the only one held during Klein’s lifetime, included a wide range of work including his monochromes, sponge reliefs, sponge scultures, anthropmetries and cosmogonies and more. A very good copy, some light wear, light indentation to top edge, of this scarce invitation which is rarer than the iconic catalogue that accompanied the exhibition.
