KAYE, Martin. Paradiso Punk Weekend 2

(Amsterdam): Paradiso, 1978. Original silkscreen poster for the second punk weekender at the infamous Paradiso nightclub. It would appear however that the event never took place. Apart from one other (sold) example of the poster we can find no record of the event and indeed the Paradiso chronological gig listing does not record this event. The event was to feature No Fun, The Softies and the Inside Nipples on the 21 July, 1978 and The Gods, The Rousers and the Flyin’ Spiderz, on the 22nd. The poster, measuring 61cm by 43cm, was produced by Martin Kaye, Paradiso’s longest serving in-house designer and screen-printer (1972-1983) and a decisive influence on defining Paradiso’s image. The poster features an easily legible typeface to enable people to read the text as they rode past on their bicycles. Kaye also distibuted the print run of around 120 copies throughout Amsterdam himself. This is a near fine copy.
