Reconstruction kit recreating Vilmos Huszár’s celebrated “mechanical dancing figure,” originally devised in the early 1920s in connection with the Dutch Dada and De Stijl movements. Huszár, a founding member of De Stijl alongside Theo van Doesburg and Piet Mondrian, employed the articulated figure during the 1923 Dada tour in the Netherlands, projecting its movable geometric forms in what he termed a “Simultaneïstisch-méchanische dans.” The original construction is now lost and survives chiefly through period photographs and documentation. The box contains contains two boards to make the figure, two black card sheets of the same size, 12 metal clips, wooden pole, paint tube, green and red paper sheets, instruction sheet in Dutch and a 16 page staple-bound booklet in Dutch. Contains in very good condition, box with split at one corner, some marking.
