HERS, Francois and Sophie RISTELHUEBER. Interieurs.
(Brussels): Archives d’Architecture Moderne, 1981. First edition. Oblong quarto. 126 pages. Preface by Jean-François Chevrier. Text by René Schoonbrodt. The first book by photographer Sophie Ristelhueber, a collaboration with future husband François Hers. The first section, photographed by Hers, consists of color images of the interiors of social housing with no people; the second section, Ristelhueber’s, is comprised of black and white images of the inhabitants of these interiors. Initially, Hers had proposed that Ristelhueber compose texts to accompany his photos describing the supposed inhabitants of these interiors. But she found that the camera was better suited to conveying the words she was looking for. A near fine copy in wrappers with integral French flaps. A superb book, one of our favourites.
