GRIMBERT, Benoit. Nuclear Winter.

(Brussels, Belgium): Bartleby & Co., 2018.  First edition.  Box.  36cm by 25.8cm.  A wonderful project by Grimbert, revisiting the final years of the singer Nico in Manchester.  Based on her diary, the autobiography of her son Ari, and various biographical elements, the project questions aspects of Nico’s life through a series of views of the different neighbourhoods she lived in or passed through.  The elements include two volumes Nuclear Winter I: Public Privacy Copy, Nuclear Winter II: Re-Collection Paste.  Both volumes spiral bound wrappers, 345 pages and 327 pages.  Each 23.5cm by 17cm.  French text.  With inserts, photographic images, maps and illustrations.  A folder containing two original postcards and an original photographic print by Grimbert showing the Manchester School of Art and the Holy Name Church, Manchester.  A folder containing to single 45 rpm’s: Procession by Nico and The Invisible Girls (1983) and Highway Love by KiLiKini (1982).  A folder containing a copy of issue 5 of Search & Destroy (1978).  All items numbered 8/10.  Additionally includes the small zine published by Le Bal, to accompany the book launch at their Paris venue.  The event included a discussion between Grimbert and  with Serge Féray, author of the book Nico, femme-fatale, and Julie Cortella, in charge of publishing the Cahiers du MNAM.  The zine also numbered 8 was published in an edition of 30 copies.  All items in at least very good condition housed in publisher’s card box with title label.  Box split at one corner.  A remarkable record of the enigmatic Nico’s time in Manchester.
