de MEXICO, N.R. Marijuana Girl.
(New York, NY): Universal Publishing and Distribution Company, 1951. First edition. Issued as Stallion Book, 204. This the Canadian issue, with the book being issued in America Uni-Book No. 19. Scarce digest format of this classic pulp novel. Includes ‘A Glossary of Jive’ printed at rear (5pp). The book gained notoriety after becoming Exhibit A in Rep. Ezekiel C. Gathings’ Congressional Sub-Committee’s mini-crusade against drug use in popular literature. This is a very good copy in illustrated wrappers with cover colour illustration of a drug-induced woman sitting on the floor in a blue negligee & robe, with marijuana joint in her hand. A quintessential book of the genre. Surprisingly OCLC records no copies.
