Octavo. 281 [2] pp. An important and early study of tattoos and tattooing, written by an Italian doctor and anthropologist who wrote often on criminology and was a follower of Lombroso. Illustrated with 15 plates, two of which are roughly hand-coloured. The final plate reproduces tattoos found on prostitutes. A good copy in printed wrappers, worn, and tidemarked along the spine. Professional paper repair to rear wrap and to a tear at final leaf. This copy inscribed by the author on the half-title. A presentable copy of this scarce and fragile work. OCLC locates only two copies.
