D’AGATA, Antoine. Insomnia.

(Marseille, France):  Images en Manoeuvres Éditions, 2003.  First edition.  Softcover.  27cm by 22.4cm.  192 pages. A visceral exploration of nocturnal life. d’Agata by immersing himself in environments characterized by transience and marginalization presents images that depict scenes of drug use, sexual encounters, and urban decay, often blurring the lines between observer and participant. d’Agata’s approach is deeply personal; he integrates his own experiences into his work, resulting in images that are both intimate and confrontational.  The accompanying texts by Christian Caujolle and Bruno Le Dantec provide critical insights into d’Agata’s methodology and the thematic undercurrents of the book. They contextualize the photographs within broader discussions of contemporary society’s underbelly and the role of the photographer as both documentarian and participant.  A very good copy in photo-illustrated wrappers.
