COMPARET, S. Manuscript Album.

(Paris / New York): Self-published, 1896-1900(?). Amazing scrapbook compiled by a French tailor who travelled to New York presumably to introduce French styles to America. Comprises 44 pages (some double-sided), of clippings, cut-outs, and a few pencil drawings depicting contemporary fashions, some pages with pencilled anotations. An old tailoring cost sheet is laid-in at the rear. The volume is mainly considerate of the prevailing mens fashion but some pages are given over to female attire. A good example bound in blue cloth, front hinge pulled. A fascinating documentation of fashion at the turn of the century from the perspective of a tailor.
