BUCHAN, David. Modern Fashions or An Introduction to the Language of Partial Seduction.

[Calgary, Alberta]: Glenbow Museum, [1979].  First edition.  Folio.  Unpaginated.  Brochure published to showcase Buchan’s wardrobe art, the pieces here based on Esquire magazine ads from the ’60s. The images play with the formal language of pose and gesture to construct various personas using the signifiers and meanings woven into the clothing.  Buchan was a beloved cult figure of Toronto’s contemporary art world, rising to prominence in the 1970s and 80s as vocal and vibrant member of the city’s art and queer communities, and is now recognised as a central member of a generation of groundbreaking artists responsible for helping shape the contemporary art landscape in Canada.  A very good plus copy in stapled wrappers.
