The volume gathers an extensive body of the artist’s paintings, drawings, and works on paper, many reproduced full-page and drawn from both private and institutional collections. Alongside the plates are essays by Keith Haring, Ted Joans, Jeffrey Deitch and others, documentary material, and archival photographs that situate Basquiat’s practice within the downtown New York art scene of the early to mid-1980s, tracing his rapid development and the enduring influence of his iconography, text fragments, and improvisatory style.  Profusely illustrated illustrated in colour and black-and-white.  A very good plus copy in dust jacket.
