(Rhone, France): Andre Martel, 1948.  New edition, revised and augumented.  Softcover.  24.1cm by 16.5cm.  572 pages.  An early comprehensive history of film.  The volume offers a survey of cinema’s development from its origins to the mid‑1940s, addressing silent and early sound film, major filmmakers and aesthetic trends.  Illustrated with 142 film stills.  An important work that influenced subsequent film historiography and criticism.  A very good copy, some cracking at spine due to size, otherwise a nice presentable copy of this work that is widely regarded as one of the first full‑length general histories of cinema.
