ALBERS, Josef and Eugen GOMRINGER. Josef Albers. Son oeuvre et sa contribution à la figuration visuelle du XXe siécle.

(Paris): Dessain et Tolra 1972.  First French edition.  Hardcover.  27.5cm by 32cm. 205 pages. A richly illustrated and scholarly tribute to the life and work of Josef Albers, one of the key figures in modern art and visual theory. Edited by renowned Concrete poet and art theorist Eugen Gomringer, the book includes contributions from respected art critics and historians such as Will Grohmann, Michel Seuphor, Norbert Lynton, and Clara Diament de Sujo.  The essays provide in-depth analysis of Albers’ artistic philosophy—especially his groundbreaking theories on colour, perception, and abstraction—and examine how his teachings and artworks contributed significantly to 20th-century visual culture. His legacy as an influential educator (at the Bauhaus, Black Mountain College, and Yale) is also explored.  Illustrated throughout the volume is a definitive and visually engaging tribute to Albers’ artistic and theoretical contributions.  This a good copy only, one page loose, some heavy foxing to page edges, in a very good dust jacket with some wear along edges.
