AARONS, Slim. A Wonderful Time: An Intimate Portrait of the Good Life.

(New York, NY): Harper and Row, 1974.  First edition.  Quarto.  Aarons’ superb photo essay depicting the lifestyles of privileged America.  This chronicle of the good life, as lived by the upper classes and aristocracy in the 1950’s, 60’s, and 70’s takes us from the major U.S. cities to the Caribbean. An influential work Paul Smith launched an Aarons-inspired collection, based upon the fashions found in the book – colourful, stylish clothes and printed fabrics with retro-50s-60s Palm Beach elegance and panache.  A near fine copy in dust jacket.  A nice copy of this cult classic, a cultural record of a bygone, closed world of American social-set affluence relaxing with the nonchalance of the nobility and an innocence only they perceive, from the perspective of an insider who captured more than he knew.
