Dr. LAKRA. Health and Efficiency.

Mexico City: Editorial RM, 2009. First edition, special signed and numbered edition of 25 copies, this copy 5/25. Velvet-bound hardcover. 19 × 24 cm. 88 pages. With 41 colour photographs. Text by Abraham Cruzvillegas. A darkly humorous series of altered vintage photographs from 1950s nudist and pin-up magazines. Dr. Lakra tattoos and defaces the images with skeletons, ghouls and other grotesque figures, transforming their idealised visions of health and beauty into scenes of sex, mortality and decay. The imagery draws on the traditions of Mexican Day of the Dead imagery, Surrealism, Goya and tattoo culture, creating a strange collision of pulp eroticism and macabre fantasy. A very good copy signed by the author. We have been unable to find any reference to this limited edition.
