HANG, Ren. New Love.
(New York, NY): Session Press, 2015. First edition. Hardcover. 29.7 by 21 cm. 56 pages. The first US monograph by Ren Hang, published on the occasion of his first solo exhibition in Tokyo (Matchbaco gallery, June-July 2015). The book gathers photographs made during his first visit to New York City: casual snapshots of friends in parks, cafés, streets and apartments in Brooklyn and Manhattan, interleaved with the provocative nudes for which he is best known. Heavily censored at home in China, Hang found in New York a freer and more playful register, and the resulting images read as a diary of discovery. A good copy, with bumping to corners. Published in an edition of just 500 copies. This example signed bodly by Hang across the front endpaper.
