The Addams Family in Portrait of Gomez.
(Portland, Oregon): Filmways TV Productions, Inc. / Sawyer’s Inc., 1965. First edition. View-Master picture packet, 11.2 × 11.2 cm. Original packet containing a 16-page booklet and three seven-scene stereoscopic reels (B486) comprising 21 colour 3-D scenes from “Portrait of Gomez,” the thirteenth episode of the second season of the original Addams Family television series, first broadcast on 10 December 1965. The episode finds Gomez convinced that he is to be named Strife magazine’s “Man of the Year” and searching for the photographer who once captured his perfect portrait, leading to a series of typically macabre and comic misadventures. The View-Master set adapts the episode into an illustrated photographic narrative, with the accompanying booklet providing the story. Interestingly the television programme itself was broadcast in black and white, whereas the View-Master set presents the episode in colour stereoscopic photography, giving the familiar television characters and sets a rather different visual treatment. A very good example.
