PARR, Martin. Yates.

(No place): Café Royal Books, 2016. First edition. Softcover. 20.1 by 13.9cm. [36] pages. A rare publication presenting a selection of Martin Parr’s photographs from his Yates’s Wine Lodges (a northern Wetherspoons) series, shot principally in northern England in the early 1980s. Parr’s black-and-white photographs capture the interiors, clientele and distinctive atmosphere of Yates’s pubs, documenting a particular form of working-class British drinking culture at a moment of social change. The photographs form part of Parr’s important early documentary work and were made in 1982–83. The series was subsequently recognised as a significant record of the changing culture of the British pub. A very good copy in stapled wrappers. This example signed by the photographer.
