An exceptional first photobook documenting the experience of Ukrainians deemed unfit or ineligible for military service, capturing their attempts to maintain a semblance of normality amidst the trauma of the ongoing Russian invasion. The presence of the aggressor is constant, inscribed in wounded bodies, shattered façades, boarded-up windows, and the darkness imposed by power cuts. It also lingers in less visible ways, through the spectral remnants of Soviet domination that continue to haunt both personal and collective identities. Rather than documenting combat, Dykmans photographs the quiet persistence of civilian life under the constant threat of violence, producing a body of work distinguished as much by empathy and restraint as by its documentary acuity. A very good copy in wrappers, showing some handling marks. Published in an edition of 500 numbered copies, initialled by the photographer.
