A faithful facsimile of Keizo Kitajima’s legendary Photo Express: Tokyo, originally issued as twelve monthly booklets in conjunction with the photographer’s exhibitions at the independent CAMP Gallery in Tokyo during 1979. Each sixteen-page booklet accompanied a new installation in which freshly made photographs were pasted across the gallery walls from floor to ceiling, collapsing the distinction between exhibition, publication, and photographic practice. This edition adds a thirteenth booklet documenting the history of the CAMP project and the original exhibitions. Produced to coincide with LE BAL’s landmark exhibition Tokyo-e in Paris, this edition, of one of the rarest and most influential publications of post-war Japanese photography, preserves the format, sequencing, and graphic character of the original 1979 pamphlets.
