SALINGER, Franny and Zooey.
(London): Heinemann, 1962. First UK edition. 20 by 13.8cm. 201 pages. One of Salinger’s defining works and the cornerstone of the Glass family sequence, bringing together the novella Zooey and the earlier story Franny, first published separately in The New Yorker in 1955 and 1957 before their appearance in book form in 1961. Through the spiritual and emotional crises of the two youngest Glass siblings, Salinger produced one of the most influential explorations of post-war alienation, religious yearning, and intellectual disillusionment in twentieth-century American fiction. The first British edition, issued by Heinemann in 1962, is notably less common than its American counterpart. This a very good copy in un-clipped dustwrapper.
